A spoken color-clue game for 2 to 10 players
The cue giver privately chooses one of four target colors. After a one-word clue, every guesser places a marker. The cue giver may then say a second clue using one or two words before the final markers are placed.
Exactly two players automatically use cooperative Duo mode with one shared score. Groups of 3 to 10 use classic individual scoring. Local play is free, while hosting a private Room follows CardYard Premium access rules.
How to play Hue Hunt
- Add 2 to 10 player names for one-device play, or create a private Room.
- Pass the device to the cue giver and ask everyone else to look away.
- Choose one of four labeled target colors and find it on the full board.
- Say a one-word clue out loud, then let each guesser place one marker.
- Say an optional one or two-word second clue, then place the second set of markers.
- Reveal the target and score each marker by its distance from the target cell.
Ways to play
Use the same solid-color board in the format that fits your group.
- One-device play: Pass one phone or tablet between the cue giver and guessers. Private look-away screens protect the target.
- Private Rooms: Each player joins on a separate phone. CardYard synchronizes turns, clues, markers, and scoring.
- Duo mode: Exactly two players cooperate across eight turns and build one shared score.
- Classic mode: Groups of 3 to 10 rotate the cue-giver role and compete for the highest score.

The cue giver chooses G18 and says "lagoon" out loud.
Players place their first markers. The cue giver may add a second short clue, then everyone places a second marker before G18 is revealed.
Tips for better clues
Describe an association
Think of objects, places, foods, moods, or memories that suggest the target color.
Keep the target private
Only the cue giver should see the selected coordinate before scoring.
Use the second clue carefully
Help players adjust without directly naming a board position.

Is Hue Hunt free?
One-device Hue Hunt is free in the browser. Joining a Room is free, while Room hosting follows CardYard Premium access rules.
How many people can play Hue Hunt?
Hue Hunt supports 2 to 10 active players. Two players automatically use cooperative Duo mode. Groups of 3 to 10 use classic scoring.
Can we play on separate phones?
Yes. Create a private CardYard Room and share its code. CardYard handles the private target, turn order, marker placement, and scoring on each phone.
Do players type their clues in local play?
No. In one-device play, clues are spoken out loud so the group can focus on the board. Rooms default to spoken clues and also support typed clues when needed.
How does scoring work?
An exact guess scores 3 points, a neighboring cell scores 2, and a cell two spaces away scores 1. More distant guesses score 0.
Is Hue Hunt an official Hues and Cues edition?
