Read the full rules guide
  1. Read the black card

Each round has a black card with a blank, like “Nothing ruins a party faster than _____.” One player, the Judge, decides this round.

  2. Play your funniest card

Everyone else picks a white card from their private hand of 7. Pick 2 cards need two answers, in order.

  3. The Judge picks a winner

Answers show up anonymously. The Judge picks the funniest one, and whoever played it scores a point.

  4. Pass the crown

The Judge changes every round. Play 5, 8 or 12 rounds, or first to 5 points. Swap your whole hand once per game.

Is this the official Cards Against Humanity?

No. Cards Against Humanity is a card game by Cards Against Humanity, LLC, and CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY® is their trademark. Black Cards is a separate game made by CardYard, with its own name, its own cards and its own rules. CardYard is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Cards Against Humanity, LLC.

Is Black Cards free?

Joining a Room is always free and needs no account. Your first hosted match is free with a CardYard account; after that, hosting needs Premium. Solo against AI players is free within CardYard's daily free limit at the Family and Party levels. Spicy 17+ and the NSFW 18+ deck need Premium.

How many people can play?

One to eight seats. With 1 or 2 people, AI players fill the table, so you can play alone or as a pair. With 3 to 8 people, everyone plays on their own phone, tablet or computer, and AI players are optional.

How many cards do you get?

Every player holds 7 white cards in Black Cards, refilled after each round (the boxed Cards Against Humanity game deals 10). On a Pick 2 black card, answering players draw one extra card first.

Can 2 people play?

Yes. Add AI players in the Room settings, or play Solo against three AI players. AI players play cards and, with fewer than three people, take turns as the judge too.

Is there a family-friendly version?

Yes. Choose the Family level for cards kids and grandparents can play: no sex, drinking or swearing. The Party level is crude and absurd but nothing sexual; Spicy 17+ adds innuendo.

Can we play over Discord, Zoom or FaceTime?

Yes. Keep your call open and send everyone the Room link or code. Each player sees their own hand on their own device, and the Room keeps the round, the answers and the scores in sync.

Do we need to download anything?

No. Black Cards runs in any modern web browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
