Speak and guess

The clue-giver sees ten private cards. Their teammates guess aloud in person or through any voice call.

Judge privately

Opponents see the forbidden words and get a tactile buzzer. Guessers never receive secret card text.

Settle the match

Correct, Skip, and Buzz rulings update everyone. Balanced turns and paired overtime keep the finish fair.

Taboo online FAQ

Taboo™ is a trademark of its respective owner. CardYard is an independent browser experience and is not affiliated with or endorsed by that owner.

Can I play Taboo online for free?

Yes. Create a private CardYard Room, share the six-character code, and play with 4-12 people in modern phone or desktop browsers.

Does everyone need an app?

No. Every player joins from a browser. CardYard synchronizes roles, private cards, the timer, rulings, and team scores.

Can we play Taboo over a video call?

Yes. Keep your preferred voice or video call open and guess out loud. CardYard does not record or transmit your audio.

Who can see the Taboo card?

The clue-giver, opposing judges, and a facilitator can see the target and forbidden words. The guessing team sees only its speaker, timer, and progress.

How does overtime work?

After three turns per team, a tie creates paired overtime. Both teams receive one more turn, repeating in equal pairs until the scores differ.

Is CardYard the official Taboo game?

No. CardYard is an independent party-game platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the owners of Taboo™.
