Ways to play

Teams

Split into two teams and alternate words. Anyone on the team may sing, which keeps shy players in the game.

Steal

If a player misses, the next player gets five seconds to sing the same word for the point.

Last singer standing

A miss knocks you out. Keep spinning until one player is left, then play again on Hard.

Solo challenge

Spin ten words on your own and count how many you sing in time. Then try to beat it.

Sing That Word

Want the phone to keep score?

Sing That Word is the scored version for a room: add up to 10 players or teams, pick a theme, difficulty and clock, and pass the phone. It deals a fresh word for each turn, the group taps Sang it or Missed, and the winner shows at the end.

Works in any phone or laptop browser.

Song association questions

How do you play the song association game?

One player gets a random word and has 10 seconds to sing a line from any song that contains it. The rest of the group judges: if the word is sung inside a real lyric before time runs out, the player scores a point. Players take turns, and whoever has the most points after the agreed number of rounds wins.

What are good song association words?

Short everyday words that turn up across many genres work best: feelings like happy and crazy, time words like tonight and forever, weather like rain and fire, and people like baby and friend. Avoid rare poetic words and words that sound like a very common word, such as two or sea, because almost any song then counts.

What are some hard song association words?

Try the Hard level on this page. It mixes medium words with harder ones such as eclipse, tambourine, marmalade, kangaroo and Tuesday. Each hard word appears in at least one well-known song, but few people find one in ten seconds.

How long do you get for each word?

Ten seconds is the classic clock. For kids or a big group, 15 or 20 seconds keeps it fun; the scored game lets you choose 10, 15 or 20. Experienced players sometimes drop to 5 seconds.

What counts as a correct answer?

Most groups require the exact word, sung rather than spoken, in a line from a real song. Agree before you start whether plurals, other word forms, rap verses, jingles and repeated songs count. When the group is split, a quick majority vote settles it.

Can you play song association with kids or in a classroom?

Yes. Every word in the list is family friendly. Choose Easy and a longer clock, and let teams answer together. Nothing is recorded, the page shows no lyrics, and the generator needs no account.

Can I print the song association word list?

Yes. Use the Print or save as PDF button above the list. It prints only the words, grouped by theme and difficulty, so you can play without a screen.

Is the song association game free?

The word generator and word list on this page are free with no limit and no sign-in. Sing That Word, the scored version for groups, uses CardYard's shared daily free-play limit, one use per match. Premium removes the cap.

Can you play song association online with friends?

Yes. Start a video call, share your screen with this page or the scored game, and spin a word for whoever is up. Everyone hears the answer live, and the group taps whether it counts.

Ready when the room is.
