One private surprise at a time

Draw a random charades prompt instantly.

Press Draw Card when the room wants a surprise instead of a debate about categories. This random charades generator mixes recognizable actions, places, characters, objects, jobs, animals, and situations, then keeps the prompt private on the actor's screen. The starting mode draws one card at a time, while the Batch control can create five or ten prompts whenever a host wants a prepared round.

Fit the room

Choose prompts people can perform.

Audience guidance

Random Mix is strongest for groups that already understand the rules and want variety without setup. It works for families, coworkers, classrooms, and parties because the audience control can narrow the tone without locking the game to one theme. Keep Mixed for a broad room; choose Family around younger players, Classroom at school, or Party when adults want more situational prompts. The first card is intentionally general so a visitor can begin before changing any control.

Host playbook

Put the device in the host's hand and draw one card only when the next actor is ready. This prevents players from memorizing upcoming prompts and keeps every reveal genuine. Run a sixty-second timer, allow one redraw for an unknown reference, and award one point per correct guess. After two complete rotations, use the category menu to create a themed final round or switch to a printed equal-size batch if the score is close.

Play better

Strategy for this generator.

  1. 01

Use random mode to remove host bias

A host-written list often leans toward one person's favorite movies or references. Random Mix spreads the round across ordinary actions, broad pop culture, physical objects, animals, jobs, and locations. That variety makes the game feel fairer and stops one specialist from dominating every turn.

  2. 02

    Keep the first round mixed

Leave audience and difficulty on Mixed until everyone has acted once. The generator can then reveal whether the room needs easier physical prompts or harder scene-based ideas. Change one control at a time so players understand why the next round feels different.

  3. 03

Draw privately, then pass the device

Only the performer should see the prompt. Hold the phone close, read the card, and pass it face down or lock the screen before taking position. Private one-card draws prevent accidental spoilers and preserve the surprise that makes a random round work.

  4. 04

    Skip obscure prompts immediately

Random does not mean mandatory. If the actor has never heard of a reference, draw again without a penalty. A ten-second argument over whether a card is fair damages the pace more than a free skip ever will.

  5. 05

Switch to batches for tournament play

Single cards are best for casual turns. For a timed match, generate ten prompts, copy or print the list, and give both teams the same number of cards. Equal batches make scores comparable while keeping the content unpredictable.

Before you draw

Quick answers.

Is this random charades generator free?

Yes. Draw random prompts in the browser without creating an account. You can also change category, audience, difficulty, and batch size before the next draw.

Can I display only one random prompt?

Yes. This page starts in single-card display mode, so only the actor's current prompt is shown. CardYard generates a small five-card buffer for fast next draws, and you can open that batch only when you need a list.

What categories are included in Random Mix?

The mix can include actions, movies, animals, objects, books, songs, jobs, places, and recognizable situations suitable for a general room.

How do I make random charades easier?

Set difficulty to Easy and audience to Family. Announce the broad category before the actor starts, allow one free skip, and use a sixty-second timer.

Can I print random charades cards?

Generate a batch, open the list button, and choose Print. For a larger ready-made set, download the 180-prompt printable word list.
